Creating healthier, more inclusive communities

Change through Challenge’s mission is to advance the lives of young people at risk of social exclusion through the provision of challenging activities that develop their skills and capacities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals. We aim to provide a ‘contemporary ‘rites of passage (CROP) to enable young people to reach their full potential so that they can lead an active and fulfilling life.

Our Vision:

Our vision is to run a regular stream of challenging programmes to advance the lives of young people at risk of social exclusion and to create tangible benefits to the communities of Weymouth and Portland.

Young People’s Challenge:

‘It was a high counsel that I once heard given to a young person, "Always do what you are afraid to do.‘  - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Our young people face huge challenges in todays society. They have lower levels of confidence and trust, weaker relationships and a lower sense of belonging than their contemporaries in almost all other developed countries. This is clearly evident in the increasing prevalence of truancy, underage drinking, self-injury and suicide. Society has a poor perception of those who fall into these groups and they often find themselves in such a place because these views reflect their own. Not only do they, but local communities suffer as a result too. We exist to change that.

The very basic core of a person's living spirit is their passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. - Christopher McCandless

Our Aim:

Our aim is to run a regular stream of challenging programmes to advance the lives of young people at risk of social exclusion and to create tangible benefits to the communities of Weymouth and Portland.

Our Belief:

We believe that everyone should have the right to live an active and fulfilling life; that all should participate in creating healthy, inclusive communities and that everyone should have the chance to stand up and make their mark in life.
